Wednesday evening’s cycle race was the Bryant’s Cafe Individual Time Trial on Middle Arm Road and turned into a State of Origin clash with Troy Herfoss and Emily Roper dropping in from the Gold Coast to take on the locals.

The Middle Arm course consists of rolling hills which steadily climb to the turnaround just past Dennys Lane and a fast run home to the finish line back at the cemetery. Warm conditions with a noticeable cross wind greeted the 20 riders who signed on for the race of truth. There were plenty of high tech time trial bikes, skin suits and riders who had shaved down for the occasion looking for any small advantage over their rivals. Setting off at 30 second intervals and with no drafting permitted there was no shelter for any of the riders as they raced against the clock to see who could cover the 20km course in the shortest possible time. Cameron Roberts took out A Grade ripping up the 20km course in 26 minutes and 10 seconds edging out Riley Fleming by 5 seconds. Jacob Emmerton finished third and Emily Roper was the first A Grade woman across the line. Adam Lambert still recovering from the Hannibal’s Tour of Europe dusted off the bike and won B Grade with the improving Josh Daniel second.

Mark Stutchbury continued his impressive form taking out C Grade by 1 minute and 5 seconds over Chris Berry while nothing could separate David Carmichael and Bluey Emmerton in third place. The Club Handicapper has a close eye on Mark who is not far away from a ride in B Grade. Three wins in three weeks for Fiona Berry in D Grade with a 56 second win over Ted Goad with Steve Watts, after a long layoff and months of secret training, finishing third. A few more solid performance before Christmas and Fiona could be another rider being promoted. A huge thanks to all the volunteers – Phil, Mrs Bush, Gav, Nadine, Gary, Wayne and Tony

Next Wednesday is the Artform Earthmoving Graded Scratch Races on Windellama Road. Sign on by 6pm at the order of Brisbane Grove Road and racing at 6.30pm. New riders welcome.
