The event was hosted by the Goulburn Amateur Swimming Club and 35 of its members swam in a variety of events. In total there were 138 competitors from Nowra, Moruya, Bungendore, Queanbeyan and Canberra clubs as well as the local swimmers.
Club secretary Stefanie Wild said that despite the somewhat cool conditions it was a tremendous experience for the local swimmers with many personal best performances achieved.
“Goulburn swim club kids had 35 swimmers at the meet and they all swam fantastically,” Mrs Wild said. “It was good to see some big personal best performances from our swimmers.
“Goulburn also had our youngest swimmer, Lucy Weston, race in her first swimming meet and did a great job against the bigger kids.
“Development meets like this give the younger swimmers an opportunity to gain experience into the technical racing world of swimming.
“An invitational meet was added to the day to give some of the more advanced swimmers, who don’t qualify to race the development series because their times are too fast to compete against those who with less experience and slower through the water.
“Amongst the invitational kids on Sunday, Goulburn had some country, state and national preparation representatives (the Goulburn swim caps reflect their level of swimming). They were also a great addition to the team to assist the younger swimmers with their events.
“These events make for a very long day, but are so rewarding with many showings of teamwork and great sportsmanship, no matter what club you come from all swimmers encourage each other to do their very best and congratulate and cheer on when needed.
“A swim meet takes a lot of planning and support from the community to pull off. We had great sponsors donating to our raffle and races including, Remington Kitchens, BiRite Goulburn, Jaycar Goulburn, Jim's Coffee, Adametis Jewellers, Subway Goulburn, Goulburn Green Grocers, Shepco, with the club’s major sponsor being Goulburn Suzuki.”
The officials were all volunteers, who gave their time to run this event some come from Canberra and others from Goulburn.
