The Hibernian Hotel has taken out the category best Casual Dining Venue Country Southern category at the Australian Hotel Association Awards, announced recently in in Sydney.
Hibernian Hotel owner Cathryn Burke said she was “thrilled” that the pub had won the award.
“This award is for Best Casual Dining - not just for food, but the whole dining experience,” she said.
“The criteria covered the menu, customer service, staff efficiency, presentation, quality, variety, value for money and the popularity of the venue. It is packed most nights.
“We were up against pubs from Nowra to Jindabyne and all down the south coast, so it was a vast area really.
“This is the fourth year running that we have been finalists in these awards.”
The hotel currently employs 27 staff, including a team of five chefs in the kitchen.
Mrs Burke said they were going to start renovating the hotel early next year to reflect its history. It was first licensed in the 1850s, making it one of the oldest pubs in Goulburn.
“We are looking to take it back to a heritage look in line with the hotel’s past. We will do up the exterior and the entrance of the hotel and also put in a new TAB,” she said.
Out of 600 entries, four hotels from Goulburn were named as finalists in seven different award categories.
The Southern Railway Hotel was a finalist in the Best Draught Beer category.
The Tattersalls Hotel was a finalist for Best Outdoor Dining Experience, Best Gaming Venue Country and Best Pub Tab Country.
The Hibernian Hotel was a finalist for Best Casual Dining Venue Country Southern, Best Cheap Eat Under $15 and Best Steak Venue.
The Astor Hotel was a finalist in Best Pub Style Accommodation - deluxe.
