The majority of people dressed in pink for the McGrath Foundation fundraiser organised by teacher Jess Bromfield. The aim was to raise money to help fund a breast care nurse or provide services to help women and families going through breast cancer treatment or to raise awareness of the disease and taking action as soon as a lump is detected.
While not everyone dressed in pink there was a huge proportion of the school population who wore something pink or went all out to see how outlandish a costume they could come up with.
The fun started at lunch time with a sausage sizzle, cup cakes, ice cream and fairy floss all for sale to raise money for the Foundation. Jess Bromfield said they hoped to raise about $2000 by when the total came in they reached $2882.
“We were really pleased with how everyone supported our Pink Stumps Day,” she said. “Everyone seemed to have a great time and we are so happy that we can contribute to such a great cause.”
One of the students commented, “everyone knows of someone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer and if we are ever diagnosed with the disease we will be very grateful to have support.”
Activities included face painting and as well as the two cricket games there was bubble soccer on the oval with more bumping and rolling around than kicking the ball. While this was going on members of the school’s band M Punk played a variety of music and between sets a fashion parade of some of the most colourfully dressed members of the school community was held.
In the final of the student’s lunchtime cricket competition Rahmen Noodles were up against the big hitting Big 8. The noodles were unable to match the accuracy, catching ability and batting of the Big 8 but put up a valiant fight for the honour of taking on the teachers.
The highlight of the afternoon was the teachers against the Big 8 match, but with a couple of grade cricketers on the teachers’ side it was a big ask for the Big 8 to win. The teachers dominated and proudly held the Pink Stumps trophy high.
