Aboriginal artist Arthur Conlon spent three days with the students from the school recently to create the art works, which now are displayed around the school.
“They all did bits on it. We worked on the panels on the ground because it was raining last week,” Mr Conlon said.
“I also ran art demonstrations with the kids earlier in the year – it was hands on – they loved it.”
The panels have been placed on the back of the small tennis court as well as on the exterior of the school’s walls and they can be seen from Fitzroy and Mount Streets.
Mr Conlon is from Queensland, but he works with schools all over the country.
“I do this all around Australia. I am from the Kingaroy region, the Waka Waka people,” he said.
“I just get work – my name gets around. I must have a deadly name huh fellas?” He said to the students.
After the Crescent School, he is working with students at Wollondilly Public School, conducting two days of workshops there and completing a large mural.
He is also working at East Goulburn and Marulan Public Schools.
“Just seeing kid's faces when we do the work is the main joy I get out of this work,” Mr Conlan said.
“It is reconciliation without even knowing you are doing it and I am leaving something behind as well.”
