Moments after the same-sex marriage survey result was announced, James Brechney turned to his partner Stuart Henshall at Sydney Prince Alfred Park and asked him to marry him in a proposal that went on to make headlines.

Now, the couple have announced they will be tying the knot at Mardi Gras next year.
Mr Brechney took to Instagram on Tuesday afternoon to confirm he and Mr Henshall have "set a date - Saturday March 2018!!!!"

"We're going to say 'I Do' as we cross over the site of the rainbow crossing at Taylor Square on our Mardi Gras float," Brechney wrote.
Mr Brechney told the Herald he and Mr Henshall were excited to get married on their own float, currently dubbed "Breko and Stu, the Wedding".
"We absolutely adore Mardi Gras - I have flown four floats myself - so it will be an electric and magical time for both of us," Mr Brechney said.
"Not only is Taylor Square the heart of gay Sydney, but I run a Facebook page called DIY Rainbow which we started when the government tore up the rainbow crossing.
"We chalked our first rainbow after that and have been campaigning for marriage quality on that page for around four years. It's a beautiful 'full-circle' moment."
Next year is the 40th anniversary of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, with the march paying respects to "40 years of evolution". While Mardi Gras is one of Australia's most famous and well-loved celebrations, the first march in 1978 ended in violence. Police arrested 53 people and many other attendees were assaulted.
Mr Brechney says that "to be a part of this moment in history at the 40th anniversary is incredible".

"To have this moment of our lives celebrated at the same time [as the 40th anniversary of Mardi Gras] is incredibly special. We feel very privileged and honoured," he said.
The pair's ceremony is most likely the first wedding to take place at Mardi Gras.
A wedding party of around 80 people will dance around the float. Mr Brechney says the couple's parents are "so excited" to join them on the ride after years of marching in the parade themselves.
Aside from the seating arrangements, Mr Brechney says he and Mr Henshall are still in "high-level discussions" over all other wedding details. "We are still debating who is going to wear the dress," Mr Brechney said.
