Saving Lives on Country Roads is a confrontational series that aims to spread the critical message of safety while travelling on the state’s regional road network.
Between 2011 and 2016, 19 people lost their lives in the Goulburn Mulwaree local government area and 134 were seriously injured on the roads, according to Transport for NSW.
There have been seven fatalities in the region so far this year, two more than the same time last year.
“We need to face up to the fact that far too many country people are dying on our roads,” Ms Goward said.
“Here in the Goulburn electorate 54 people lost their lives and 390 were seriously injured in the past five years from 2012 to 2016. This has to stop.
“That’s why a campaign like this is so important to get the message across to country drivers that it’s not tourists or people from the city dying on their roads, its locals.”
