The relieving vice-captain had been awarded the High School Certificate (HSC) All Rounder, Trinity HSC Commendation List and 2017 HSC Student Honour Roll Distinguished Achiever.
In addition to this, he scored 99.2 for his ATAR, one of the highest scores in the school’s history.
“My dad is more excited than me,” he joked, hours after receiving his score.
Raised in Goulburn, Tyson plans to pursue actuarial studies at the Australian National University (ANU), citing math, history and business as his three favourite HSC subjects.
“I was very surprised, I didn’t expect to get anywhere near that mark, I was expecting 88-90 so I was quite shocked to get it,” he said.
Acting principal Tanya Appleby told the Post she was proud of his achievements.
“He achieved one of the highest scores in the college’s history and I attribute that to his strong work ethic, relationship established with his teachers, and his positive mindset that’s fueled him to excel,” she said.
Tyson said he would miss the school, but was excited to pursue the next chapter of his life.
“I will miss Trinity, it is a great school, I’m lucky to have great teachers that were always there for me. I found I was able to make [Year 12] work. You have to have a balance, there’s no point just focusing exclusively on your studies.
He has a simple message for those studying in Year 12 next year.
“The main message I want to put out is to enjoy the journey, it’s not all about the end result. Try hard, give it your all, and see how you go.”
