Goulburn Mulwaree Council and Endeavour Industries will provide an extra kerbside recycling service this holiday season to help residents dispose of their excess recyclable waste.
This means residents will have their recycling bins collected three weeks in a row.
The first collections took place during the week of Monday December 11 and again from December 18 and the third and final week will take place from December 26.
There will be no collections on Christmas Day and all collections that week will take place the day after the usual collection day.
Goulburn Mulwaree Mayor Bob Kirk called upon the community to sort their waste and recycle right this festive season.
“Recyclable items collected in kerbside recycling bins are hand-sorted at Endeavour Industries so it is very important that residents make every effort to sort their waste properly and make sure that items don’t end up in the wrong bin” Cr Kirk said.
Items that can go in the yellow-lid recycling bin include: paper and cardboard, pizza boxes (clean), egg cartons, milk and juice cartons, glass bottles and jars (lids off), aluminium and steel cans, aerosol cans (empty), aluminium foil (rolled into a ball), and plastics marked with the triangular recycling symbol with any number between and including 1 to 5.
“Recyclable items should never be placed in plastic bags as it is not safe for Endeavour Industries staff to open them,” Cr Kirk said.
Cr Kirk said residents should consider Planet Ark’s ‘12 Do’s of Christmas’ to help them have a more environmentally-friendly Christmas.
“While it’s easy to get carried away with big meals and bulky gifts over Christmas, it’s even easier to cut back on waste and costs with a few simple changes,” Cr Kirk said.
“Plan out thoughtful gifts and make meal plans ahead of time and you’ll have a happier and more sustainable festive season.”

If residents still have excess recycling, it can be sorted and dropped off for free at Endeavour Industries Resource Recovery Centre at 54 Sinclair Street, Goulburn.
Alternatively, co-mingled recycling can be dropped off at one of Council’s Waste Management Centres at Goulburn, Marulan or Tarago for $4 per entry (up to a small trailer load).
