Former Goulburn Mayor Tony Lamarra and his wife Adriana have decided to sell up their second-hand furniture shop in Verner Street and move into another phase of their lives.

Together they have run Tony’s Handyman Centre for the past 43 years, but they have been progressively moving items into new premises – the former Sirdar Wool Factory at Bradfordville, which they purchased in 2014.
The couple have been restoring the 7000sqm former factory, which is on 16,196msqm of land at Ross Street.
This has involved replacing broken windows, painting over graffiti, creating a new car park and generally cleaning the place up.
“It was quite bad when we first came out here,” Mr Lamarra said.
“Vandals had really got to the place, but with a lot of work it is starting to look okay now.
“I have burnt over 20-tonne of blackberry bush and trees that were on the block.
“We bought this place three years ago because we had so much stuff to move and store.”
“Now this has become my ‘my second-second-hand store’ because I recycle everything.
“I never throw things away and people drop in out here and say to me ‘I know if I need something then Tony will have it.
“That said, we have had enough and are thinking of retiring this year, but we will continue to serve the community with their business. People can pop in and see us out here.”
Mr Lamarra is also selling land around his house at Marys Mount, which is expected to finalise in February.
Goulburn real estate agent Peter Mylonas has the Verner Street shop listed through his agency.
He said it had garnered much interest already.
Mr Mylonas said the shop could be sold as a development site or leased in its current form.
“There has been interest from people seeking either to buy it or lease it and Mr Lamarra is open to negotiation,” Mr Mylonas said.
“It could be sold as a development site – for demolition – to maybe put apartments up the top with shops down below. This seems to be the latest craze around town.
“The council has also been supportive of similar recent moves in the city - so this is the market we are looking at.
“Tony is also open to leasing the shop, which is 705sqm. For a big area like that he only wants $75,000 per year, which is dirt cheap. The normal rate is $200-$300 per sqm. We also have it on the market for $1.5 million.”
Mrs Lamarra said the former Sirdar Wool factory was established by people from Bradford, England, which was why the name of the suburb around it was Bradfordville.
