Riders came from as far afield as Darwin to test their ability against fellow riders and possibly earn a place on the podium. The 70-plus event program got underway at 2pm with the juniors having to contend with the worst of the day’s heat.

It was not long before Goulburn had a top-three finisher in under 11s rider Elsie Apps, who has just stepped up to that division and surprised everyone with her strong finishing, second place in the two-lap heart-starter. Later in the junior program she won the u11 girls handicap and the derby.

Visiting riders dominated the junior classes with Goulburn’s other two female juniors Emma St Vincent and Caitlin Bensley finding the competition from Tyler Puzicha of Bathurst Cycle Club, Halle Mulley from Wagga Wagga  and Emily Strumfin from Illawarra CC particularly tough. These three shared the honours in all the under 15s women’s events. The only racing accident all day occurred in the under 15 boys scratch race when three riders came down including the winner and runner-up of the earlier handicap event.

Senior racing got underway a little after 5pm. The women’s feature race of the carnival, the Atkinson & Stalker Dental Wheel Race was won by Peta Brill from Vikings CC in Canberra, with Rosemary Hastings from Bathurst second, Belinda Smith from Goulburn third, Kate Vickers from Carnegie Caulfield fourth and Marian Renshaw from Bathurst fifth.

The Whites Tractor Men’s Wheel Race was won by Mackenzie Edwardson from Canberra with Michael Beard of Goulburn second, Paul Parlett of Goulburn third and Cameron Oke of Wagga Wagga fourth.

The Neville Smith Memorial Roller Derby final was won by Harrison Carter from Bathurst over David Browne from Bicisport, who won the first roller derby held at a Goulburn Track Power Carnival.

Goulburn Cycle Club president Adam Lambert thanked all the cycling NSW officials who helped  conduct the carnival, as well as the volunteers and competitors.
