The National Indoor Hockey Championships continue this week at Veolia Arena with the under 21 games for men and women.

These games started on Tuesday, with practise on Monday, and will conclude on Friday afternoon with the gold medal matches.
On Sunday, NSW claimed victory in the open men’s, defeating the ACT side four goals to three in a thrilling encounter. NSW had defeated Queensland 12 to four for the right to play the ACT in the open men’s final.
The ACT side, which featured several Goulburn players, and the NSW side were evenly matched and dominated the open men’s division three-way contest.
In the open women’s championship, Western Australia defeated Queensland for the gold medal, five goals to three.
In the playoff for third and fourth place, the ACT defeated NSW three goals to one. Tasmania were fifth in the overall rankings.
Goulburn has been strongly represented throughout the championships this week. The under 21 men’s team playing for the ACT included Lachlan Norberg, Ben and Jake Staines, Hayden Shawyer and Kurt Devlin. In the women’s ACT team, local players included Hannah Shawyer, Maggie Anable, Mikayla Evans, Aleisha Price and Renae Robinson.
There are six teams in the under 21 men’s championship: the ACT, NSW, Victoria, Queensland, Tasmania and Western Australia. Tasmania did not field an under 21’s women’s team.
High quality sporting action will continue this week at the Veolia Arena.
On Wednesday, January 10 at 10.30am, see the ACT under 21 men take on Western Australia; then the ACT women vs Queensland at at 11.30am; the ACT men vs Victoria at 1.30pm; and at 7.30pm, the ACT women vs NSW in what should be another thrilling, fast-paced encounter.
On Thursday at 10.30am, the ACT men play NSW in their final game before the playoffs. The gold medal games are on Friday at 12.45pm on for the men and 2pm for the women.
This is the first time the National Indoor Competition has been held in Goulburn.
Veolia Arena is on Braidwood Road and spectators will be admitted free.
