The thread of conversation uncovered this was a “problem” faced by many. “Yeah they used to do that to mine lol” one person responded, “I had mine stolen three days ago for the third time,” another person added.

Some even suggested putting bleach in the ashtray, which we here think is very, very… extreme. Another more reasonable person suggested putting water in the ashtray.

It was clear the online lynch mob was unimpressed with the behaviour – with only one person asking “why be so mean?”.

It’s that time of year again. The annual Rose Festival is looming on March 10 and 11, this time in a new venue, the Veolia Arena at the Recreation Area.

In preparation, the Goulburn Rose committee is gathering at Victoria Park from 8am on Thursday, January 18 to prune the roses. Helpers are welcome but should bring a hat, gloves, pruners and drinking water.

Committee member Margaret Thompson says organisers are looking forward to receiving a healthy number of entries. The festival schedule is available from the Visitors Information Centre. For more information, call Margaret on 4821 1159. 

Readers may remember The Goulburn Post’s stories about Taralga man, Tim Husband, the technical director at Dubai’s Safari Park since 2014. 

The pet project of the country’s monarchy opens its first stage to the public this month. Mr Husband has been travelling the world sourcing animals and staff for the 500 hectare park. On completion, it will have about 10,000 animals.

His hard work at this and other zoos has been noticed. This month he was placed third in Zoo Professionals’ world rankings.  

Mr Husband and wife, Wendy, also well known in the community, keep in touch with friends and make the occasional visit home.
