The Compassionate Friends Goulburn Support Group was launched on December 10 last year. Goulburn women Sandra Martin and Jo Cunningham, who have both lost children at a young age, founded the group after identifying a need in the community.
They launched the group at the first annual candle lighting service in Belmore Park. Some 30 people attended the ceremony.
"It was a moving service to honour the memory of a child of any age who had died,” Mrs Martin said.
“The evening consisted of beautiful readings, poems, music and songs and an opportunity to share stories and memories with families who had a shared experience. A candle was lit in honour of each child.”
Mrs Martin said it was clear on the night that the support group was very much needed, with many inquiries about meetings.
The first support group meeting is on Wednesday, February 7 from 7 to 9pm at Saint Joseph's School Hall, Reynolds Street.
