Among them will be as many as 3000 local and district public and primary school children gifted a free ticket by the Goulburn AP&H Society.
The Society delivers the tickets to local public and primary schools in the week before the Show.
This is one of the largest community events in the Goulburn Mulwaree area, billed as “something for everyone,” promoting a low-cost, family-fun weekend.
Running since 1880, this year marks the 138th annual Goulburn Show.
The Goulburn AP&H Society has an interesting and varied history, starting with a public meeting held in the Municipal Chambers at 4pm on March 24,1880.
At this meeting, a Mr W. Davies, Esq. moved “that a society be formed under the name of Goulburn Agricultural, Pastoral and Horticultural Society.”
A.F. Gibson seconded the motion.
The first show was held at Dan Thorn’s in 1846 at the Old Brewery while the Argyle Agricultural Society held a ploughing competition in Bradley’s Paddock. The last recorded show of this nature was in 1869.
This year, there will be a range of activities across a spectrum of entertainment, trade and industrial displays, musical entertainment, livestock, equestrian, as well as the ever-present side shows, with a focus on dogs.
Combine this with the wood-chopping, the animal farm, poultry show and a Pavillion filled with arts, crafts, foods, flowers, produce and music, and this will be the best value for money over a weekend.
