A swashbuckling 58 from Mikaylah John wasn’t quite enough to get Goulburn home, against Far South Coast, in the first game of the Southern Zone Inter-Association Under 15 Women’s 20/20 cricket carnival, held at Seiffert and Prell Ovals on Sunday.

John was well supported by captain Isabella Greig on 23 and Niamh O’Rourke on 8 to compile a very good 113 from Goulburn’s 20 overs. Bridgette Anable remained on five not out.
In response, wickets from Goulburn’s Sophie Moroney, Greig and O’Rourke weren’t enough to stop Far South Coast from running down the total in the 19th over, in what was an exciting and very high quality game of cricket.
The carnival is being held in Goulburn over three Sundays, with teams coming from Far South Coast, South Coast, Illawarra and Shoalhaven/Highlands. The games are 20/20 games, eight players a side and with two games each Sunday.
In Goulburn’s second game of the day, Goulburn was able to overcome Illawarra in a low scoring but none-the-less exciting game as Goulburn reached Illawarra’s score of 46 in the 13th over. For Goulburn, Elke O’Rourke took two wickets and was well supported by John, Moroney and Rhaine Pik who bowled well during her two overs. The Crookwell combination of Emily Secomb and Bridgette Anable finished off the Goulburn’s run chase, with big hitting Secomb not out on 18.
There were several stand-out players evident across the games, with National development squad player Isabella Greig and also Mikayla John for Goulburn, and Far South Coast’s leg spinner Jade Allen, Jesse Mudelier and Jemma Pollock displaying quality batting and bowling skills.
Thanks to the player’s parents and Committee of the Junior Cricket Association for assistance with pitch preparation and general organisation, and also thankyou to Goulburn Mulwaree Council for assistance with visitor information packs. Games continue over the next two Sundays. This Sunday Goulburn plays Shoalhaven/Highlands at 10am on Seiffert Oval.
