The officer, who graduated from the Goulburn Police Academy in 1992, told The Post he enjoyed his time.
“I’m leaving the local area command with a heavy heart,” he said.
“The support from the senior management team, the staff and most importantly the community, they’ve been right behind the police. I couldn't have hoped for better support throughout the whole community. It was a privilege to run such a fine command.”
The outgoing acting superintendent said he was impressed “across the board”.
“Crime has gone down to historic lows. I am also proud of what we’ve achieved as a team, building stronger relationships with the community. I couldn't wish for a community better to police.”
Bowral Inspector John Klepczarek described Mr Koutsoufis as a “very popular” commander.
“He was definitely a community minded commander who instilled in all police the importance of working for and with the community and that will certainly be a legacy he will leave behind,” Inspector Klepczarek said.
“He had quite a push for his police to be involved in reducing alcohol related crime and anti social behaviour. This led to an increase in police involvement with licensed premises and taking action against those who breached liquor laws.”
Acting Wollongong superintendent Chad Gillies wished him well for the future and acknowledged his positive impact across all the LACs.
There will be no time to rest for Mr Koutsoufis who will start at the Illawarra station on Monday.
He will be replaced by Chris Schilt on Sunday, on the same day the Hume LAC will turn into the Hume Police District following a restructure by NSW Police.
The district will soon encompass 23 sectors and include parts of Young. The state move will see 34 LACs combined into 26 districts.
