Council implements additional green waste pick-up

Storms in late January caused flash flooding and a build up of green waste.

Heavy storms in February have prompted the council to undertake an additional organic waste collection next week. (Mon 12th-16th).

A spokesman said it was expected the remaining collections for 2018 would stay the same.

“The council will review the need for any further extra organic collections in spring; this will allow staff to focus on composting operations throughout winter,” he said.

“Green bins, which can contain both garden and food waste, must be put at the kerb for collection on your household’s normal collection day. The bins must not contain plastic bags or other contamination.”

Residents are asked to spread the word to friends and neighbours about the additional service, which isn’t included on the 2018 Waste Collection Calendar.
