In a recently resurfaced interview with radio host Howard Stern in 2003, the Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill director said Geimer "wanted to have it" and she was "down to party".
"I want to publicly apologise to Samantha Geimer for my cavalier remarks on The Howard Stern Show speculating about her and the crime that was committed against her," Tarantino was quoted as saying on Thursday.
"Fifteen years later, I realise how wrong I was. Ms Geimer WAS raped by Roman Polanski.
"When Howard brought up Polanski, I incorrectly played devil's advocate in the debate for the sake of being provocative ... So, Ms Geimer, I was ignorant and insensitive and, above all, incorrect."
Polanski has been a fugitive since fleeing from California to France in 1978 while awaiting sentencing for unlawful sex with a minor.
In an interview with the New York Daily News earlier this week, Geimer said Tarantino "was wrong".
"I bet he knows it," said Geimer, now 54.
