They came in colourful shirts, funny hats, an upbeat attitude and intention for fun.
The Australian Blues Music festival kicked off in earnest in Goulburn on Friday night.
Upstairs at The Astor was packed to the rafters as the ever popular Lloyd Spiegel put on a show to remember. He told the crowd he was 15 when he first performed at the Goulburn Blues festival and had been coming here for 15 years.
“It’s a wonderful connection with the town,” he said, at the same time praising Geoff Bell’s organisation of the event.
In the crowd watching was Jeffro Martin, well known harmonica player, who also lauded the festival.
At the Hibernian, a happy group known as ‘The Seven Shirts’ (but there were only six), stood out in their colourful tops.
“We come here every year. We love the festival and some of us have come to the Blues festival since 2002,” member Bill Owens said.
Down at the Bowlo, strangers met up with locals. One explained that she was waiting for her 72-year-old friend to arrive by train, who was a rusted on Blues fan.
The entertainment continues all weekend. The event is free and is being held at eight venues across town, as well as the Belmore Park stage.
