Hibo Gold proved a little too strong for Southern Railway in the first grade cricket match at Seiffert Oval on Saturday, February 10. Hibo skipper Brad Smith won the toss and elected to bat.

Jack Goodwin struck early for Railway to have Tom Pender nicely caught and Hibo 1/5. Brad Webster and Jimmy Armstrong turned things around for Hibo to reach 3/48 jack Goodwin bowled his nine overs unchanged for an excellent display of spin bowling and returning the figures of nine overs one wicket for six runs.
Ben Staples and Will Croker combined in a 58 run partnership before Clay Woodberry bowled Croker for 22 Staples went on to post a very well made innings stabilising 58 but he also fell victim to Clay Woodberry trapped lbw and Hibo Gold now 5/125 Brad Smith and Steve Anable pushed the score to 149 before Clay Woodberry struck again removing Anable.
This brought Scotty Boughton to the crease to join Smith and these two added quick runs in an attractive partnership but on 183 Boughton holed out caught at deep square leg off Rod backhouse for 19.
Nathan Stewart joined Smith in a breezy partnership to take Hibo to 7/199 off their 45 overs with Smith finishing with a well made 33 not out and Stewart a 12 not out cameo.
Jack Goodwin was obviously the standout bowler for Railway but he received great support from Clay Woodberry with his three wickets in a Railway side that worked had all innings.
The Railway run chase faltered early with Jimmy Kent picking up two wickets for Hibo Gold but Blake Langlands was joined at the crease by Lachie Tozer and they began to right the ship for Railway before Boughton struck, removing Langlands.
Tozer continued his mission with intelligent aggressive batting he finished 60 not out.
Railway were dismissed for 127 with Boughton the standout bowler with nine overs 4/30 he received good support from Smith with 3/21 off seven overs and Jimmy Kent 2/30 off his five overs.
