The Galloping Greens of Randwick and the Brumbies Runners will join the Goulburn Dirty Reds in trial rugby action on Poidevin Oval. It is also hoped the Bowral Blacks will take part in the trial this Saturday, February 24.
Club president Peter Greaves said is was an ongoing vote of confidence in Goulburn Rugby that top level teams want to bring matches and trials to Goulburn.
“Former president Matt Klem did a great job in establishing and building relationships with other clubs and the fruit of that is in the games that are now coming our way,” he said.
The exact format for the day is still being finalised but at this stage is likely to include three mini trials – Randwick Colts v Bowral, Goulburn v Bowral and Goulburn v Randwick Colts – before the main game between Randwick firsts and the Brumbies Runners, tentatively scheduled for 2pm. The first match is slated for 12.15pm at this stage.
Dirty Reds patron Simon Poidevin has told his mother, Ann, he will be attending the games and she called into the Goulburn Post to ensure we knew about this great sporting spectator opportunity.
The Galloping Greens have played the Runners previously at Poidevin Oval in 2011. Dirty Reds patron, who is a Life Member of both Randwick and Goulburn, has been instrumental in developing the link between his two former clubs. While the matches will be trials, Greaves said the players would be looking to impress coaches and selectors.
“We’re going to see some really great rugby skills, so hopefully the public might come up and have a look,” he said.
