The piece of equipment, valued at $2200, will allow firefighters to measure temperatures via grey scale imagery.
Marulan brigade secretary Warren Denniss gave a “huge thanks” to the company for their financial support.
“We do a lot of BBQ in Bunnings and festivals to raise money, but we often don’t have the funds to purchase an equipment like this,” he said.
The thermal imaging camera will be used for house, car and machine fires. It is able to identify the root of the fire by simply pointing the lens at targeted areas.
The handheld technology will be housed in Marulan and shared across other brigades when need be.
Mr Denniss said a piece of equipment like this was important for firefighters responding to house and operational fires.
“It is harder when you are in a room full of smoke and don’t know the cause of the fire, now there is a reassurance that when you leave the fire, there’s nothing there.”
The equipment was purchased via Holcim’s Community Investment Fund (CIF), a grant dedicated to Marulan and surrounding communities.
