The RFS was alerted to the outbreak at the end of Alders and Crees Road, some 5km east of Taralga shortly after 3pm.
It burnt one to two acres at the end of that road, down a gully, RFS Southern Tablelands zone manager Peter Alley said.
Part of it was on land already burnt in the large fire in that area in January, which destroyed just over 2500 hectares.
Two ground crews from Taralga assisted the water bomber and it was quickly contained.
Southern Tablelands RFS units were also called to Tarlo, 15km from Goulburn this morning to investigate reports of smoke. However it turned out to be smoke blowing from the Putty fire, near Singleton, which has burnt through 16,644 hectares.
Tomorrow’s fire rating for the Southern Tablelands is low to moderate.
