The coin fell in Workers Club’s favour.
They batted, of course, and they could have and probably should have been in trouble early.
A couple of chances put down gave the big hitting Goulburn boys a reprieve and allowed an opening partnership of 83.
Jake Paterson made the breakthrough and backed up with another wicket in his second over.
Golf Club fought hard and claimed two more wickets but got a shock to see the score at 4/201 at drinks.
The infield was fast and a little unpredictable and the outfield well, there isn’t one really.
The crowd was entertained with some big hitting as Workers hit 20 sixes on their way to a new ground record of 9/405.
Andrew Tivey top scored with 88 with four of their batsmen passing 50.
Josh Paterson was again our stand out bowler with 2/51 with Benny Evans, Jake Paterson, Sparrow Parsons and Corey Knight the other wicket takers.
The chase was on!
Corey Knight started with 6 off the first ball, 4 off the second and after the third became a spectator.
His surprise partner was Sparra Parsons, who looked like he might carry his bat but eventually Workers put one on the stumps and that was all she wrote, bowled for 22.
Hamish Hammond made 42 and Luke Cummins had the honour of losing the only ball for the day on his way to 26.
A quick 14 to Nic Skelly and Golf Club were on track with 200 on the board after 20 overs.
This was mainly due to the effort on one Benny Evans who was relentless, smashing the Workers attack all over the park.
But alas, all good things come to an end and Benny was denied his century, bowled for 95.
The momentum was back with Workers Club now.
Despite some resistance from Jacob McGregor (24) and Josh Paterson (18) it was all but over.
There was an unexpected appearance by Geoff Knight who was not out 4 and also bagged a catch.
The final score for Golf Club was a respectable 258.
Dinner and drinks were taken at The Wattles and a most enjoyable evening was had by all.
It was the first competition match on Tuena’s Field of Dreams in six years.
But is almost certain to become an annual event.
Many thanks to the Workers Club team for taking this venture into the unknown.
