Big sports events taking place in Goulburn include the Brumbiers v Randwick trial games at Poidevin Oval on Saturday, Goulburn Speedway featuring the Late Model V8s and the Michelle Ward Memorial, winner takes all race, soccer trails for junior Southern Tablelands United teams at Cookbundoon Fileds against Highlands and on Sunday at Cookbundoon the Southern Branch Carnival. Then there is the big Country Championships race meeting with the Fashions on the Field South East Racing Association regional finals and the Goulburn heat of the prestigious Country Championships.

Brumbies Runners v Randwick
Great rugby trial games on Saturday at Poidevin Oval starting about 12.15pm.
The Plus500 Brumbies Runners have named a side packed with talent for their weekend friendly encounter against Shute Shield heavyweights Randwick at Poidevin Oval in Goulburn.
Ten fully contracted Brumbies players will start the game while the rest of the squad will be made up of academy prospects and club players.
Amongst the replacements, Wests captain Harry Lloyd is likely to play a lot of minutes having earned a Brumbies Academy spot with consistently excellent play in recent years. Junior Wallabies squad member Tom Ross is the other prop on the bench.
Isaak Fines is the replacement scrum-half after an eye-catching cameo at the Brisbane Global Rugby Tens and local fans will be keeping an eye out for Byron Hollingworth-Dessent with the Goulburn native likely to make an appearance on the wing coming off the bench.
The exact format for the day is still being finalised but at this stage is likely to include three mini trials – Randwick Colts v Bowral, Goulburn v Bowral and Goulburn v Randwick Colts – before the main game between Randwick firsts and the Brumbies Runners, tentatively scheduled for 2pm. The first match is slated for 12.15pm at this stage.
Country Championships
Goulburn and District Racing Club is hosting the second heat of the Country Championships.
A $150 000 race, this Saturday’s qualifier is part of the lucrative and exciting Country Championships which consists of a series of seven qualifying races, each held at a club representing one racing region in NSW.
The race is potentially that first step on the "yellow brick road" to riches for country trained horses as they look to qualify for the Country Championships Final which will be held at Royal Randwick on April 7 as part of Day 1 of The Championships. The final is worth $500 000.
There is a strong field of local horses are listed for the Championship race, number 7 at 4.40pm, which includes last year’s winner Pumpkin Pie from Danny William’s stables. Williams has eight runners in the race and two standbys Tash Burleigh is hoping Territorial can do the job and she has Bocelli listed as one of the emergencies.
As well as a strong eight race program, racegoers will also be offered a full range of activities on track including fashions on the field, live music and entertainment, full bar and catering options, kids activities and plenty more. Gates open at 11am first race is 1.10pm.
Goulburn Speedway
Saturday night Goulburn Speedway roars into action with the Late Model V8 sedans including Ben Nicastri dicing it out for the winner takes all Michelle Ward Memorial feature race.
Supporting them on the program are Formula 500s, RSA 4s, Juniors, Legend Cars and the always popular Fender Benders.
This promises to be a big action packed program with drivers coming from all around the state and possibly interstate. Gates open at 4pm racing is at 6pm. The canteen sells hot food and refreshments so the kids won’t go hungry.
Rose Bowl
The Rose Bowl continues on Saturday and Sunday with the ladies competing for cash prizes.
This competition has brought bowlers from all over the state to compete on the Goulburn Railway Bowling Club’s competition greens.
Netball registration / information day
Goulburn District Netball Association is conducting a registration and information day on Saturday from 11am to 1pm in the Goulburn Plaza. Prospective players can register on line before hand and pay at the Plaza.
