Member for Goulburn Pru Goward said the festival played a “fundamental role” in attracting visitor to the city.
“We believe the festival will become an important cultural event for the Goulburn region with interesting and entertaining activities for the whole family,” Ms Goward said.
“I congratulate the event organisers at the Goulburn Mulwaree Library on this wonderful achievement and look forward to seeing the city buzzing with visitors when the Reader Writer Festival rolls around.”
Goulburn Mulwaree Library manager said the money would go towards marketing, in an attempt to entice potential attendees from outside of the district and state.
“While they’re here attendees can explore Goulburn, have a meal and find out more about the region,” Ms Williams said.
Money from the fund will also be put towards festival merchandise giving guests the opportunity to purchase specialised mugs, notebooks, tea towels and even seed paper bookmarks.
“We want to promote Goulburn as a tourist destination,” she said, referencing the inclusion of food trucks which will be available for attendees throughout the day.
Ms Williams hopes the success of previous night markets will lure people into the library and participate the multiple activities on offer.
Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall congratulated the Reader Writer Festival for receiving the state funding.
“As a country based minister I am determined to ensure that we continue to empower and support our regional NSW tourism industry, such as Goulburn’s, and that means investing in activities which turbocharge local economies and create jobs” Mr Marshall said.
This year’s theme of the festival is ‘Feed your Mind’.
The Reader Writer Festival will be held at Goulburn Mulwaree Library from 10am – 10pm on Saturday March 24.
