Warriors won the toss and decided to bat, with Sreejesh Sreedharan and the inform Arun Raj opening the batting. The score moved alone to 13 before Sreedharan was caught by James Dyring off the bowling off Rob Ings. Arun Raj with a powerful pull-shot unfortunately hit Mark Young in the check bone.
Mark later returned to score, with some massive swelling on the cheekbone.
Rajeeva de Alwis made short work of Max George’s turn at bat, bowling him for a duck.
With Rob Ings trapping Arun Raj leg before wicket (lbw) the Warriors were three wickets down for 23 runs. Then Russell “Hitman” Mills, who is just returning to form after his injury earlier this season and Hammad Farooq really got the Warriors scoring moving with a record partnership for the team of 286.
Mills scored 144 from 102 balls and Hammad 126 from 110, before Mills was bowled by Jarad Young for 144. Some good bowling late from Jarad Young saw a few wickets fall, while Warriors trying to push the score and some fast hands from Rob Ings behind the stumps saw the Warriors all out 353 with one ball left in the 40 overs. Jarad Young with four wickets for 24 was pick off the bowlers.
Both Hammad and Mills scored centuries for the Warriors and it was Hammad’s first ever. Hammad and his kids can be seen practising their cricket skills most days in the local nets. The improvement in Hammad’s game as a result is just like that of his boys. At one stage on Saturday his second son Abdul Kareem who plays for Hibo Green took a turn at bowling against his dad and Russell Mills and was unlucky not to take one of their wickets.
Rob Ings and Brandon Courts were determined to get the Greens off to a good start in chasing down the 353 target with some aggressive batting until Arun Yadav bowled Courts for a blasting 25.
Adam Rudd came to the crease also scoring freely, but with Rob Ings having to retire to go to work and Adam Rudd losing partners he eventually got out lbw to Abdul Raheem for a well made 55. Hibo Green ended up making a respectable score of 160. Adam Rudd was the best of their batsman with 55 and Warrior’s best bowler was Abdul Raheem best bowler with two for five runs.
