Toparis enters the race as Championship leader. On Thursday, three time World Superbike Champion Troy Bayliss and son Oli dropped to his school at Trinity Catholic College, where Toparis was showing off his Kawasaki bike to students.
Bayliss, who is also racing this weekend, says Toparis has great prospects.
“He’s come up through the ranks from starting off in dirt bike racing, moved to 300 supersport, then 600cc, which is one step away from Superbikes,” he said.
“It depends what else he does in Australia and overseas next year as to where he goes. He’s a good young talent and a charger.”
Oli Bayliss will also race at Wakefield on Sunday in the 300 class. His father said the two were great mates and hung out together at meetings.
Toparis goes into practise on Friday, qualifying on Saturday and two races of 16 laps each on Sunday.
The action will be live-streamed at asbk.com.au while SBS and Fox Sports will carry live coverage on Sunday.
