Goulburn High teacher Dennis Carroll, student Shnaya Stubbings, principal Paul Hogan and Member for Goulburn Pru Goward spoke at the assembly.

They explored ideas around bullying and the need for students, teachers, and parents/caregivers to take an active role in creating a respectful school community where bullying is not accepted. Silence is not an option in the face of bullying was a theme of the talks. 

The school, after lengthy discussions with its school community, developed its Anti-Bullying Procedures. 

Goulburn High principal Paul Hogan said disrespectful behaviour towards others raises its ugly head in all aspects of life.

“Building student resilience is at its foundation and the procedure expects everyone in the school community to be a part of the solution,” Mr Hogan said. 

“As a high quality teaching and learning institution, Goulburn High understands that youth growth and development is thwart with mistakes and errors and as such, recognises that the bully needs to be educated in the correct ways of interacting with others as well as providing meaningful consequences should advice not be taken, all the while supporting the student who feels bullied.”

Ms Goward later presented a report to Parliament noting the initiatives undertaken by the Goulburn High community, so that everyone is free to learn and grow without fear of intimidation.
