Goulburn Mulwaree SES controller Robert Bell said gusts of up to 100km/h in places kept three teams, comprising 12 personnel, busy.
Many of these were fallen branches and roofs lifting on houses.
At noon, the SES was called to Marulan where part of the bucket on the KFC advertising sign was blown off.
Mr Bell said he was not prepared to send crew up ladders to secure it due to the injury risk. However a piece of the sign on the ground was secured.
Crews also attended Gibson Street, Goulburn, where a tree fell on a fence. At nearby Caoura Crescent, a tree was threatening powerlines and in Cowper Street, a branch had fallen over a driveway. Tree branches were also reported on Windellama Road but did not block the thoroughfare.
The SES had prepared for a busy day, given the forecast issued yesterday. Mr Bell said the Service notified the community of strong winds up to 120km/h through its Facebook page on Saturday, which was seen by 1200 people.
It advised people to secure outdoor furniture and outdoor play equipment, such as trampolines.
Mr Bell said he’d previously seen full-sized trampolines blowing around in the wind.
“They need to be properly secured, otherwise the consequences can be fatal,” he said.
The Bureau of Meteorology registered a top wind speed of 78km/h at Goulburn airport at 4pm.
