At about 3.42pm, NSW Police observed a white Holden Equipe travelling 149km/h in an 80km/h road-work zone.

The vehicle was stopped and the female driver was observed to be using her mobile phone on her lap. 

Police also observed a two-year-old child seated in the rear.

The driver stated she was using the phone for directions.

In relation to her speed, she told police that she did not pay attention as to how fast she was travelling as she was overtaking vehicles “because nobody likes being stuck behind other cars right?”.

On conducting checks, police discovered that the driver was suspended.

She received a $2384 infringement notice for exceeding the speed by more than 45km/h and a $330 infringement for using a mobile phone when not permitted.

She also received a court attendance notice to attend Gundagai Local Court in relation to driving while suspended.

The highway at this location is currently using only the two northbound lanes with a contra flow in place.

On entry to the roadworks from the north, it is clearly marked to slow to 80km/h before then dropping to 60km/h.

At the time, there were road workers working at the site.

Then at about 5pm on the same day, the female driver was again detected driving while suspended, travelling 135km/h in a 110km/h on the Hume Highway at Jugiong.

She was placed under arrest where she was conveyed to Gundagai Police Station to be formally charged.
