The Tarsha Gale Cup competition is a nine a side game with a large interchange bench. In this Saturday’s round seven game the Raiders have named a 17 player squad including all four of the Goulburn girls. They are playing the Parramatta Eels at New Era Stadium.
Other teams in the competition include Cronulla Sharks which includes Elly Hazelton from Goulburn, Sydney Roosters Indigenous Accademy, Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs, St George Dragons, Illawarra Steelers, Newcastle knights, South Sydney Rabbitohs, Penrith Panthers and West Tigers.
Jasmine Tooth usually plays in the centre or as a wing, Mackenzie Dodds also plays in the centre or on the wing, Lauren Kelly is a half and Courtney-Lee Picker is a lock forward.
“We love playing league and being part of the new generation of sports women,” Lauren Kelly said. “It is fun but a lot of hard work and we enjoy playing in front of an appreciative crowd.
“It is good to be part of the the game not having to give up once we get too old for juniors and good to be playing league in a women’s competition.”
It is a busy schedule for the Goulburn girls as they travel to Canberra on Tuesdays and Thursdays for training in the evenings and usually playing on Saturdays.
Now they are also committed to training for the Goulburn Stockmen women’s teams in the Canberra Region competition, with training on Mondays and Wednesdays Courtney-Lee is playing with the under 17s, while the other girls are in the open women’s team which is this year being trained by John Sykes.
