New South Wales cricket umpire Claire Polosak, whose parents still reside in Goulburn, has become the first female on-field umpire to officiate a final in the history of the Women’s World T20.
Polosak was appointed to the semi-final between England and India in Antigua on Friday morning, Sydney time.
It is her first appointment to a final of a major International Cricket Council tournament.
The appointment continues a significant rise through the global umpiring ranks for Polosak that dates back to 2016.
In March of that year, Polosak and New Zealand official and former player Kathy Cross, became the first two women to umpire at a Women’s World T20 tournament and the 30-year-old from Goulburn continues to make history.
Last season Polosak became the first female to umpire a one-day domestic match in Australia at Hurstville Oval.
She also umpired during the Women’s Ashes last season and was appointed to the final of the ICC Women’s World T20 Qualifying tournament in the Netherlands during July.
New South Wales Cricket Umpires’ and Scorers’ Association Executive Officer, Darren Goodger said Polosak has had an excellent tournament at the Women’s World T20 in the West Indies and deserved her semi-final appointment.
“She is highly respected in the women’s professional game and this appointment is on the back of really thorough preparation leading to consistently good decision making,” Goodger said.
When asked what was the most important trait that continues to earn Polosak such appointments on the world stage, Goodger summed it up in one word.
“Composure,” he said.
The match between England and India will follow the other semi-final between Australia and the West Indies, at 11.00 am on Friday morning.
Appointments for the 24 November final will be made in due course.
