A man was lucky to escape injury after his car burst into flames on Saturday afternoon.

Police said the 45-year-old Gulburn man was driving north on Ducks Lane at Run-O-Waters at about 12.30pm when he felt heat coming from the footwell of his Holden Colorado.

He smelt smoke and pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and noticed flames. The man immediately got out of the car and tried to put the fire out himself before notifying emergency services.
NSW Fire and Rescue attended and extinguished the fire within 30 minutes. Police and ambulance also attended. Ambulance officers checked the man but he was uninjured.
Part of the road was cut off to traffic while the blaze was extinguished.
