Northbound motorists can now pass the site of a truck fire on the Federal Highway at Wollogorang, about 6km south of the Hume Highway.
Northbound and southbound motorists are taking it in turns to use a southbound lane under alternating (stop/slow) traffic conditions.
Traffic is heavy in both directions, especially northbound.
Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and exercise caution in the area.
Emergency services and traffic crews are on site.

RFS spokesperson Lachlan Gilchrist said multiple units are responding to the fire, but the highway might be closed for some time.
"The police are trying to work on a contra flow, to get the traffic moving again," Mr Gilchrist said.
"The northbound lane remains closed."
Police said there were no reports of serious injuries.
"The truck caught fire and the driver jumped out. They were not injured but it led to a grass fire," police said.
The Live Traffic App says: "Northbound vehicles should consider using Wollogorang Road to access the Hume Highway" as a traffic work-around.

There are reports of a grass fire caused by a truck that is impacting traffic on the Federal Highway near Wollogorang.
The RFS is in attendance and a spokesperson said it appears the grass fire is the result of a semi trailer catching alight.
The exact location is 6km south of the Hume Highway turnoff.
The RFS said at 11.50am that the highway is closed northbound.
The Federal Highway is closed northbound at Wollogorang, about 6km south of the Hume Highway, due to a truck and grass fire.
One of two southbound lanes is also closed.
The Transport Management Centre advises northbound motorists to avoid the area or delay their journey as there is currently no suitable diversion (at 12 noon).
Traffic is already heavy, so motorists already in the area should expect delays and allow plenty of extra travel time.
