GOULBURN prison officers staged a small demonstration outside Centro Mall at lunchtime on Friday in protest against plans to privatise jails in NSW, which they say could include Goulburn Jail.

Local chair of the local Prison Officers Vocational Branch (POVB) Liz Clune said the Department of Corrective Services already has tendered for the sale of Parklea and Cessnock Prison and fears Goulburn Jail is next.
"They are trying to privatise a part of our justice system," Ms Clune said.
"They have already taken steps locally to privatise the boom gate."
She said the privatisation of Goulburn Jail would have a great economic impact on the city, with the loss of some of the 288 full-time custodial jobs. It also raised human rights concerns.
