Samuel Davies is at a loss to understand why the Uniting Church of Australia (UCA) sold a much-needed property donated to them for the use of disabled people in the late 1990s. Abbeyfield is not associated with the church, but for Mr Davies, the opportunity to fill a gap has gone begging.
His mother Maggie Davies, now deceased, donated her Cowper Street investment property 'Bulwarra' to the UCA in 1993, on the condition that it was used as accommodation for local people with disabilities.
The UCA sold 'Bulwarra' for $600,000 10 years later, after deeming the property "unsuitable". Until this week, Mr Davies was not sure where the money went.
