A fictional story that is set firmly in reality, The Shoe-Horn Sonata tells the largely untold story of the 65 nurses who were kidnapped, interned and tortured, some even murdered, by the Japanese after being ship wrecked in the Pacific during WWII.
The story picks up 50 years after the war when two survivors, played by Kathy Campbell and Doreen Mullen, are reunited by a film crew who are making a documentary about the atrocity.
What ensues is a touching but tragic tale about friendship, loss and the courage it takes to not only survive a war but also live with it for the rest of your life.
The Shoe-Horn Sonata (by John Miston and directed by Chrisjohn Hancock) opens Wednesday night, April 23 for a two week season.
