The appeal, initiated by Goulburn MP Pru Goward and kicked off by Anglicare Canberra/Goulburn raised about $15,000, including a $12,000 contribution from last year’s invitational charity golf day.
Anglicare’s Canberra/Goulburn CEO Simon Bennett told the Post some families affected by the December 9 deluge still needed assistance.
Some would be waiting six months for insurance claims to be finalised.
“We’ve made it a priority to help out those ones with day to day living needs, such as food, groceries and whitegoods,” Mr Bennett said.
The appeal - supported by Goulburn Mulwaree Council and Goulburn Rotary - has helped out three main families, the Stevensons at the Old Goulburn Brewery, the Johnsons and the Flanagans. Before Christmas, organisers dropped off groceries, whitegoods, televisions and presents for children.
This week the fund is also assisting the Fraiettas from Breadalbane with shopping vouchers to purchase new clothes and school essentials.
Some $2700 raised by the community was used up first, followed the large donation from the golf day.
Mr Bennett said any money left over would be returned to the golf day organisers to use on other community causes.
