The vehicle, which was pulling a trailer laden with six round hay bales, was travelling towards Goulburn at around 4pm on Saturday when it appears a slight course correction caused the trailer to drift. In the process of trying to right its direction, the vehicle flipped several times and landed facing Taralga with the trailer overturned.
Goulburn Highway Patrol, Goulburn Police Rescue and Goulburn Ambulance Service joined with Taralga Rural Fire Service in a delicate rescue operation to extricate the vehicle’s sole passenger who had suspected spinal injuries. A neighbouring farmer also assisted by removing the bales that had been spread across the road with his tractor.
Traffic in both directions was blocked for around half an hour as the helicopter landed on the Taralga Road at around 6.30pm. At this point the passenger was stabilised before being moved to the helicopter.
The driver of the vehicle did not appear to sustain any serious injuries.
