March 11 is the closing date for receipt of entry forms, image and payment of entry fee, and on March 14 advice is sent of entry acceptance.
The exhibition will open from March 29 to April 9, with the Official Opening and announcement of the 2011 award winners on Thursday March 31 from 6pm. This is the first time that the gallery has had sponsorship for a monetary art prize.
The 2011 Goulburn Art Award will have three categories, and is an exhibition and sale of works. The Veolia Environmental Services National Art Award category is an acquisitive prize of $10,000.
“The Veolia Environmental Services National Art Award is open to all artists across the country, and we are looking forward to receiving some very exciting entries from high profile artists from around the country,” Goulburn Regional Art Gallery Director Jane Cush.
“This year, we haven’t forgotten our regional artists and have a specific Regional Art Award, jointly sponsored by Arthead Goulburn and the Goulburn Regional Art Gallery.
“This is a prize of $2000 and is only open to artists living within 120km of Goulburn.
“As a new initiative we have created the Arthead Secondary School Art Award – a $500 award for Year 10-12 students who attend a school within a 120km radius of Goulburn.
“The Gallery is extremely grateful to Veolia Environmental Services and Arthead for their generosity towards the Goulburn Art Award, and the new look Award certainly wouldn’t be possible without their sponsorship.”
A two-person judging panel of senior lecturer and artist, Bonita Ely and artist and gallery owner, Jasper Knight will select the entries to be exhibited and from these choose three winners (one from each category).
“The Gallery will continue to invite visitors to vote in the People’s Choice Award, for the artist whose work they consider to be the best in the exhibition,” Ms Cush said.
“The People’s Choice Award winner will be announced at the close of the exhibition. Entry forms, with full terms and conditions of entry, are available at the Goulburn Regional Art Gallery’s website, www.grag.com.au or by calling 4823 4494.
