GOULBURN High School student Jess Hewitt said she was ‘ecstatic’ when she heard the news that the judges for a modelling competition she entered had shown interest in her.
The Girlfriend Rimmel Model Search is an annual search conducted by Girlfriend magazine and industry professionals to find fresh new faces.
The 21-year long search has launched the careers of several wellknown Australian models including Alyssa Sutherland, Catherine McNeil, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Ruby Rose and Samantha Harris.
Jess discovered the competition after she bought a copy of Girlfriend and found an entry form.
“I read the magazine and it had it advertised for girls of all ages to go in it so I entered,” she said. Editor of Girlfriend magazine, Sarah Cornish explained the significance of the competition.
“Girlfriend Model Search is the nation’s longest running modelling competition with past winners now recognised on international catwalks. This competition really is one of the most prestigious searches in the industry,” she said.
Jess said she has always wanted to do some kind of modelling and embraced the opportunity.
“It’s been my dream, I guess you could say, since I was little and it’s a really good opportunity,” she said.
When she found out the judges were interested in her she couldn’t contain herself.
“I squealed because I was so excited!” she said laughing. The competition will involve Jess heading to Parramatta Westfield for the day on Saturday July 16 where the judging will be held for NSW. Entrants will be judged on their confidence, catwalk technique and of course their beauty.
“Down in Sydney it starts off with castings, then they choose who they want to become state finalists and then the nationals.”
