THE case of a man who allegedly led police on a high-speed pursuit down the Hume and Federal Highways has been adjourned after the accused was placed on suicide-watch at Silverwater’s Metropolitan Remand Centre.

Dennis Fisher failed to enter a plea when he appeared at Goulburn Local Court via videolink on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old, charged on 12 counts of reckless driving, driving at furious speeds, in a dangerous manner and theft, has remained in custody since his arrest on November 30.
Police allege Fisher, driving a stolen vehicle, led them on a high-speed pursuit down the Hume Highway, through parts of Goulburn’s CBD and southbound on the Federal Highway.
Officers claim Fisher reached a top speed of approximately 205km/h and travelled parts of the Highways and streets of Goulburn on the wrong side of the road.
In court on Wednesday, his solicitor Dean Rutherford said Fisher was unable to give instructions due to his mental state.
“Mr Fisher was under suicide watch, that is why he’s been moved from Goulburn [Jail],” Mr Rutherford said.
“Because of this, I was unable to get instructions from the client.”
Magistrate Geraldine Beattie deferred the hearing until January 16, by which time she expects Fisher to have sought Aboriginal Aid legal advice and enter a plea.
“On the 16th of January, the court needs to know if you’re pleading guilty or not guilty,” Magistrate Beattie said.
