The fire, which started about 3pm near the Range Rd, Learys Lane junction near Grabben Gullen had burnt out 30ha, RFS community liaison officer Peter Dyce said.
With wind dying down slightly, crews reported they were all but around the outbreak and hoped to control it within the hour.
Eighteen units comprising 50 personnel and one fixed wing aircraft descended on the blaze, which burnt through private property.
The cause is still being investigated.
Some residents did evacuate from homes due to the threat. The RFS issued an alert to residents in the area to activate their bushfire plans and advising that their house would provide protection.
“Our advice is that if they can’t stay and defend, leave early,” Mr Dyce said.
However, police were advising some people to leave.
Police also closed Range Rd at the Goulburn water treatment plant. Many motorists were defying the closure.
‘Firies’ had a scare this afternoon when another outbreak was reported at Holloways Lane, Tarlo.
However Mr Dyce said it was a false alarm. The Post has had reports a property owner put the fire out.
Meantime, seven to eight units are checking for any flare up of a fire which broke out southwest of Gunning, near Gundaroo on Monday.
The fire re-ignited this afternoon but crews rounded it up quickly.
Meantime, this afternoon a Goulburn Hazmat tanker was tasked to a fire at Bungendore where properties on Hazel Dell Rd were under threat.
