While the races consist predominantly of ‘R’ grade horses, the fields appear very even and should provide close and exciting racing.
One of the most interesting events is the $3000 Goulburn Livestock Transport Services pace for the two-year-olds over the 1710m journey.
A number of well-bred youngsters will make their debut including the Blake Fitzpatrick trained Essaouira, who was a smart winner of his last two trials at Menangle.
The Neil Day trained Fours Enuf Tas, who has drawn barrier 10, was a good trial winner at Goulburn earlier this month and has since trialed solidly at Menangle when a good second on March 12. With a capacity field, and many unknown quantities, this event promises to be a keenly contested race.
One of the stronger chances appears in race five, the $3000 Landmark Harcourts Real Estate pace over 1710m, when the former Victorian pacer Im Supersonic lines up for trainer David Wilkins.
A last start second at Menangle in very fast time should see the three-year-old colt prove too strong for the opposition. The danger, if any, is the Dennis Picker trained and driven Jack Rustler from barrier 1.
The final event of the day, the $3000 Goulburn Carnival of Cups on Easter Sunday Pace over 1710m sees a number of well-known pacers do battle.
The Blake Fitzpatrick trained Bold Radetsky is a last start winner on the track and he has the draw to be prominent again.
Starting from barrier three, the lightly race five-year-old gelding has the early speed to take up the running which would see him prove very hard to beat. The main danger is the David Hewitt trained local Alberts Flight who has been racing well in stronger company.
Harness fans can then back up on Easter Sunday afternoon for an outstanding day of racing featuring some of the very best horses in NSW at present.
Some of the headliners include the Australian Oaks winner Baby Bling in the $30,000 Frank & Edna Day Goulburn Cup while star four-year-old Scandalman makes his return to the Goulburn track in the $12,000 Goulburn Mulwaree City Sprint.
Good Friday’s edition of the Post will carry the fields, tips and form analysis and Goulburn residents are encouraged to attend a great afternoon of pacing action.
Furthermore, the entry fee of $5 will be donated in full to the Goulburn Base Hospital for the purchase of vital equipment used the breast cancer surgery.
For $5 you will contribute to a great community cause whilst enjoying the best harness racing action available.
Patrons attending the Goulburn Paceway can expect the usual good quality food and cold drinks. A licenced bar and TAB are also in place in the temporary building during the construction of the grandstand.
While some inconvenience can be expected, the racing action will be second to none.
