The Swans, who are making a name for themselves for their hard running and carry of the ball, are now one win away from the grand-final after the 100-69 point win.

They will now face minor-premiers Cootamundra this Saturday at the Gungahlin enclosed ovals.

“Our start was the key,” co-captain for the day Heath Russell said.

“But we were able to hold them as they challenged us as we knew they would.”

Russell, along with team-mate Adam Wilson were celebrating 100 game milestones. Sam Buchannan also played his 50th game for the club.

The win made the milestones extra special, but Russell was quick praise his team –mates for the victory.

“For the club we set ourselves a goal. We knew we had to work really hard to get that first finals game,” he said.

“Finals is different footy, most people know that, and to start off on a good game gives us plenty of confidence.

“The feel amongst the boys is really good that there is something there and we’re building along nicely.”

Coach Steve Armstrong was pleased his side had delivered on what he knew would be a tough game. The last time the two sides met it was Yass who produced the win.

He said the weekend’s focus was controlled possession.” “Our whole emphasis was on holding the ball instead of kicking it in all directions,” he said.

To over-come Cootamundra this weekend the Swans will need to remember this as well as playing to their strengths.

Cootamundra have been in red-hot form, beating the Swans by 120 points the last time the two sides played just over a month ago.
