The 52-year-old ACT man was driving east on Cullulla Rd at Lower Boro at 5am Monday when his Nissan Pulsar left the road and hit a tree. He was the vehicle's sole occupant. The crash occurred near the intersection with Willow Glen Rd, south of Goulburn. Police said he died at the scene. Officers will prepare a report for the coroner.

His name won't be released until all relatives, some of them overseas, are notified.

Inspector John Sheahan said police were still investigating the cause. He could not say whether the road's alignment was a factor. Comments on social media blamed the road and a large number of kangaroos.

Meantime, Goulburn Mulwaree Council is fixing an accident 'blackspot' elsewhere at Windellama. At least two serious accidents have occurred on a Sandy Pt Rd bend in the past year. Last November a bus carrying Australian Defence Force Academy cadets lost control and rolled, injuring 30 people.

In March a vehicle towing a trailer lost control on the same bend, landing on the eastern embankment. The driver was taken to Canberra Hospital for treatment.

At the time, Cullulla Rd resident Marianne Ronayne told the Post the road was "hell waiting to happen".

In April she wrote to the council asking for an urgent investigation of the weight, loads and speed of "the ever increasing number of heavy vehicles using the Oallen/Sandy Point/ Cullulla/Lumley roads to the Braidwood Rd and return."

"As you are aware there have been two very serious and potentially fatal roll overs on the Sandy Pt Rd recently. These are not the first and unfortunately will not be the last to occur on this notorious bend," Mrs Ronayne wrote.

"There has been a very substantial increase in truck movements following the opening of the bridge at Oallen, and recently a number of timber trucks, some with additional trailers, using this route after coming up Mojo Rd.

"These activities as well as the great number of drivers travelling to the coast, most of whom are not regular 'country road' users, making for a disaster waiting to happen."

She also pointed out that drivers braked heavily before the bend near her home, despite cautionary 55km/h speed limit signs.

The council promised to install counters to collect speed and vehicle number data, assess road safety and any traffic measures.

At Tuesday night's meeting, staff recommended that the council acquire a 2435 square metre parcel from a Miller Rd landowner to realign 1.2km of Sandy Pt Rd. It will pay $2150 to the owner, based on a 2014 valuation, applied proportionately. The council will also pay more than $5700 in associated costs.

Mrs Ronayne could not be reached for comment on Tuesday.

Meantime, Windellama and district residents and Goulburn MP Pru Goward have mounted a petition for an 80km/h speed limit on Windellama Rd, through the locality.

Ms Goward said drivers using Main Road 92 were speeding through the area, increasing danger especially around the Oallen Ford Rd intersection.

Windellama Rd is a State road. As such, the petition will be sent to the Roads and Maritime Service.

The RMS previously rejected a council request to enforce an 80km/h speed limit on Windellama Rd.

"They need to revisit this," Mayor Geoff Kettle said "The community wants it especially given the danger whenever there are functions at the hall and field days with cars coming out."
