Though legally he cannot ride such a large and powerful machine on the road, even when he gains his licence, he more than proved his ability to handle the near 600cc machine on the tight, 2.2-kilometre Wakefield Park Circuit in the national competition.
In qualifying on Saturday, he achieved the fastest lap, earning him his first career pole in this championship.
Toparis posted a time of 1:01.364 to edge out rival Mark Chiodo (Repsol Gas Racing, Triumph 675R) who missed out on pole by two and a half tenths of a second, with a time of 1:01.616.
That first race, he came out hard in the wet right from the start, leading from lap two, but came under challenge during the final stage of the 16-lap event.
