Police have changed focus in the search for missing Laggan district woman, Jillian Fahey.
Ms Fahey, 50, went missing from Crookwell at 10.30am on Sunday, April 16.
Police, SES, family and friends have undertaken an extensive search of her Cummins Road, Laggan property and beyond over the past week.
Sergeant Scott Marsh said the police search ended on Friday, when divers looked through numerous dams and waterways on the 600-acre property.
“We have now moved into an investigation phase where detectives will be looking at phone and bank records and the like,” he said.
He said police decided to stop the search given the very large area already covered by ground personnel and helicopters. This had included 250km of rural roads. The SES also stopped searching on Friday. However family and friends are continuing.
“They are intent on continuing to look because this is their loved one and they won’t rest until they have a conclusion,” Sergeant Marsh said.
Police have revealed Ms Fahey did not take any belongings with her, including her wallet, when she disappeared. Her mobile phone has been switched off the entire time. They hold concerns for her mental health but say she is physically fit, often walking 15 to 20km at a time.
Ms Fahey has short blonde hair, blue eyes, is 160cm tall with a slim build. She was wearing beige cargo pants, a t-shirt and joggers.
On Friday night the family posted on Facebook that “our Mum is still missing.”
“She loves the outdoors, the beach, rivers, waterfalls, walking and family. A bubbly outgoing personality,” it stated.
It said she was last seen at Crookwell at 10.30am Sunday.
“She headed home to Laggan, left her car in the garage there, took only her phone with her, not even her wallet.
“...We feel it's not likely that she is in the area now. Possibly has even been picked up by someone. So please try to get her picture out far and wide. Our hearts are breaking.”
Friday 10.30am:
Police divers will today complete their search of dams and waterways at a Laggan district property where 50-year-old Jillian Fahey went missing on Sunday.
Hume Local Area Command crime manager, Detective Inspector Chad Gillies said there were numerous dams and waterways on the Cummins Road property. The divers were brought in on Thursday.
“Once that is complete today we will reassess where to go from there in terms of the investigation,” he said.
“We are also liaising with friends and family regarding other lines of inquiry.”
Detective Inspector Gillies reiterated that police had not ruled anything out but given the passage of time still held grave concerns for Ms Fahey’s welfare. He urged people to come forward with any relevant information.
Ms Fahey has family living on the property.
Hundreds of community volunteers have turned out to help the search. SES personnel have spent four days scouring the property on foot and in vehicles. Police have used trail bikes and enlisted help from PolAir and the Westpac helicopter over two days.
Neither aerial support nor SES are onsite today and police resources are restricted to the divers.
Thursday 10am:
Police and a small army of helpers are still searching for a woman who went missing from a Laggan district property.
Jillian Fahey, 50, was last seen by her family on Sunday at Crookwell at about 10.30am. She then returned to her Cummins Road property, 15km northwest of Laggan.
Family and friends have been searching for her since Sunday and on Monday, police, PolAir and SES volunteers joined the effort.
Inspector Jason Horne said police were receiving phone calls about possible sightings and detectives were investigating these.
“Police are liaising closely with her family and because of this we hold concerns for her welfare,” he said.
“...The information we have is that unless someone has picked her up on Sunday, she is likely to be on foot.”
Police, 12 SES personnel from Collector, Goulburn and Crookwell, an unknown number of locals and a Westpac helicopter are searching the 600-acre grazing property today. Inspector Horne said numbers would ramp up if Ms Fahey wasn’t found in the next few days.
Her family reported her missing to police on Sunday afternoon.
Ms Fahey is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 160cm tall, of thin build, fair complexion, with blonde hair and blue eyes. A Facebook posting by her family stated that she was on foot and wearing pink/blue Asics runners, beige cargo pants and a short sleeved tee shirt when she went missing.
Anyone who sees Ms Fahey or knows her whereabouts is urged to contact police via Crime Stoppers.
Paragliding accident
In other news, police have confirmed the 39-year-old killed in a paragliding accident at Mummel on Monday afternoon was from Terrigal.
He was being towed on the back of a vehicle at the Pooleys Road property when he dropped to the ground. Police said the man died at the scene. They were called to the property at 1.20pm.
A Goulburn detective has been assigned to the case. The police Aviation Support Unit and the Australian Gliding Association are assisting the investigation.
Fatal car crash
A woman who died in a car crash south of Goulburn on Tuesday was from Winston Hills.
She was driving a Mitsubishi Pajero south along the Hume Highway at Yarra when it struck an object, causing the car to roll on its roof, police said.
She died at the scene, while a female passenger sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Canberra Hospital. Three other occupants were treated for minor injuries at Goulburn Base Hospital.
Inspector Horne said police were examining video footage from a witness’s dash-cam to determine the object the woman struck.
